First Practice of Excellence in the Nation
Aventa has reached a major milestone in our over 20 years of practicing medicine. We are proud to announce we are the first AIMIS Gynecologic Practice of Excellence in the nation. Aventa joins Flowers Hospital, designated an AIMIS Center of Excellence, as the premier providers of minimally invasive surgery for the area. For more information on what this means for the Dothan community, we have provided answers for our patients on a variety of different questions regarding this prestigious designation.
Why choose minimally invasive surgery?
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is an advanced technique involving extremely small incisions paired with tiny cameras to perform surgery. This technique dramatically reduces scarring, pain and trauma. This technique is the preferred method for members of the American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (AIMIS) for the surgical technicque’s added safety benefits and reduced cost for patients.
What is AIMIS?
The American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery is the nation’s preeminent educator of minimally invasive surgical techniques. The organization both teaches minimally invasive methods and also supports graduates and members with opportunities where they can find marketing support, consulting services and strategies to help them grow and strengthen their practices. AIMIS also provides resources for patients, corporate partners and physician members and affiliates to help foster progress throughout the medical profession.
AIMIS supports this philosophy by ensuring that its members provide the best, cutting edge surgical techniques for patients, while recognizing outstanding practices and hospitals that adhere to this ideology. Aventa has been recognized as the first AIMIS Gynecologic Practice of Excellence.
What is an AIMIS Gynecologic Practice of Excellence?
The American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (AIMIS) Gynecologic Practice of Excellence designation sets Aventa apart from every other gynecologic practice and joins them with some of the most prominent hospitals, including Flowers Hospital, in the nation for improving women’s health. This accomplishment was achieved after passing a series of rigorous criteria established by the accrediting body of AIMIS.
Why is an AIMIS Gynecologic Practice of Excellence important for the community?
600,000 hysterectomies are performed each year in the United States, making it the second most common procedure performed on women. According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention an estimated two-thirds of these procedures involve more-traumatic open surgeries rather than minimally invasive laparoscopic methods. The AIMIS Gynecologic Practice of Excellence designation is important to the Dothan community because it gives patients added assurance that Aventa has not only passed and exceeded the norms for MIS quality and delivery, but also ensures the physicians of the practice are accredited AIMIS physicians. Aventa is lucky to have a partner who is designated an AIMIS Center of Excellence, Flowers Hospital.
What is an AIMIS Center of Excellence?
An American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (AIMIS) Center of Excellence designation is to recognize hospitals and surgery centers that meet not only AIMIS’s stringent standards, but are passionately dedicated to advancing education for minimally invasive procedures. We are proud of Dothan’s own Flowers Hospital for joining this elite group.
